   FIBER ARTS STORYBOARDS

The Fiber Art Storyboards were highlighted at the Feel the Fiber! exhibit during the 2007 Albuquerque Fiber Arts Fiesta. These display boards, accompanied by other visual aids and hands-on examples of fibers, have traveled all over New Mexico. From Santa Fe to Silver City and from schools and youth groups to libraries.

We premiered the Fiber Arts Storyboards, educational visual displays that explain fiber and how it is used, at the 2005 Albuquerque Fiber Arts Fiesta.  The Albuquerque Fiber Arts Council applied for a grant from New Mexico Arts and received funding to make three Storyboards.  Laura Sandison is the Project Director.  Many  members from the

guilds helped supply her with samples of fiber, finished products and bibliographies.

Each Storyboards is composed of two 2' x 3' panels that hook together so that they will stand up for display.  The three displays that have been completed are: Types of Fiber; Fiber Art Techniques and Colcha Embroidery: Design and Application.  Each display will be accompanied by a set of hands-on samples of fiber or technique, bibliography, leader's guide and workshop project  if appropriate.

The Storyboards are  loaned out to teachers, scout leaders, guilds and other such community groups in New Mexico that are interested in an educational display about fiber.  If you want further information about borrowing these display boards contact Laura Sandison at sandison at flash.net or write: Laura Sandison, AFAC Storyboards, P.O. Box 16443, Albuquerque, NM, 87191-6443.

"This project is made possible in part by New Mexico Arts, a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs, and the National Endowment for the Arts."
