SPECIAL EVENTS

The first thing visitors to the Fiesta saw was the purple Snug Buggy outside the Creative Arts Building

The Completed Snug Buggy.

The Dropped Stitch Knitters Guild members assembled purple 5-6" squares in all types of fiber art techniques to make a "cozy' for a VW Bug. The license plate is a hooked rug; tatted doilies are headlight covers.  University Volkswagen in Albuquerque loaned a VW for this occasion.  The covered car was on display outside at the Fiber Arts Fiesta held at the EXPO New Mexico grounds, May 24-26, 2007.

Each square represents a donation of $5 per square given to S.A.F.E. House, New Mexico's largest shelter and service provider for survivors of domestic violence. Fiesta Visitors were generous and the fundraising was declared a success.

Demonstrations of fiber art by the Guilds and Vendors

Hands-on doll face decorating at the KoKopelli's Enchanted Dolls guild booth.

The co-sponsoring Guilds and Vendors in the Albuquerque Fiber Art Fiesta organize Demonstrations for each day at the Fiesta.  Vendors demonstrate in the Stage area specializing in introducing new products and patterns.  Each Guild has demonstrators working in the guild booths or at selected areas of the exhibit hall throughout the day. Members demonstrate favorite techniques for visitors often combined with hands-on opportunities.  Visitors from young to old are fascinated by spinning, weaving, silk painting, quilting, beading, knitting, lace making, all of which seem so complicated when one is unfamiliar with the basics.
