SPECIAL EXHIBITS
During each Fiesta we have special exhibits organized outside of our competitions.
Allison Jones-Lo setting up the Vintage Fiber Arts Exhibit. The Vintage Fiber Arts Exhibit covered over 100 years of textiles from private collections, ranging from early 20th century wedding dress and christening gown to silk embroidered shawls to beaded handbags to a crazy quilt of the 1880’s, inspiring admiration and awe at the time and detail once considered necessary for beauty. This was an extremely popular exhibit--maybe we will do it again!
Vintage Whitework And to further educate the public about the joys and intrigues of working with fiber, the Feel the Fiber! educational display had hands-on examples and information about the differing techniques and approaches one might see in the artwork. Sue Petersen and Julie Thoreson organized this display which was more a chance to play and fondle the fiber. The Fiber Art Storyboards return and Kay Smith photographed close-up details of just one selected entry from each exhibit and mounted these in a display to spur you onward to see all the entries!
Embroidery examples on display at the Feel the Fiber! exhibit Our Featured Artist was Katy Widger who is nationally recognized for her contemporary art quilts. She displayed 20 quilts, each of which has a story about its inspiration. Katy was at the Fiesta every day to meet the public.
